The traveler hook and mini Jim devices are designed for quick entry into protected areas through hasp bypass. Hasp bypass is possible on doors with poor fitment or doors without overlapping door jamb protection. If the latch is accessible through the door jamb, the hook on either device use used to pry the hasp open from curved side of the latch. Some locks include anti-tamper pins (dead latch) on the outward edge of the latch. If the door is closed and the dead latch pin is depressed, the latch will not retract. It is possible to bypass the anti-tamper mechanism if the door is improperly fit. By manipulating the door (pushing in on the door surface, raising the door edge, etc) the anti-tamper pin can be fully extended, resulting in the latch moving freely.
If a latch cover plate is used, the longer traveler hook might be useful for hasp bypass. During tests, having a piece of weed eater string can result in simple bypass as well. The weed eater string is fed behind the latch and pulled both up and down to put tension on the latch and retract it.
